Governor Josh Shapiro’s time as Pennsylvania Attorney General was not without controversy. Initially ruled a homicide, the local police disputed this conclusion, pointing out that the door was locked from the inside and her fiancé, who claimed to have found her after breaking down the door, had no defensive wounds. Despite this, the medical examiner eventually changed the ruling to suicide, a decision that sparked outrage among many who found it implausible that someone could commit suicide in such a manner.

In 2022, amid rumors of a conflict of interest due to a relationship with the fiancé’s family, Shapiro’s office reaffirmed the suicide ruling in the case. Some now speculate that his actions in this case may have cost him the Vice Presidential nomination, with Kamala Harris ultimately selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz instead. The victim’s family, particularly her mother Sandra, has publicly criticized Shapiro for his handling of the case, accusing him of neglecting to properly investigate during his time as Attorney General.

Reports surfaced of his office mishandling a sexual harassment allegation against an aide, further tarnishing his reputation.
