Celebrations for Spain’s Royal Family Following Euro 2024 Win

Spain’s royal family celebrated the nation’s historic Euro 2024 win in style, with King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and their teenage daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, hosting the national football team at the La Zarzuela Palace in Madrid. This event took place a day after the squad emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against England in the final held in Germany. The players brought along the Henri Delaunay Trophy, and the royals were more than happy to pose for photographs with this iconic silverware.

Two of the younger royals, Future Queen Leonor (18) and Sofia (17), took the opportunity to recreate a special photograph. They posed in the same manner with the trophy as they did 12 years before, when they were just six and five years old, respectively. These young princesses wore Spain’s football kit for this public engagement at the palace, creating a heartwarming scene.

During the celebration, King Felipe looked dashing in a grey suit paired with a red tie, while Queen Letizia exuded elegance in a scarlet Carolina Herrera frock. The football squad also showed solidarity by wearing specially-made shirts with the number four on them, symbolizing their four record-breaking European Championship titles. In addition to the 2024 victory, Spain has previously been crowned European champions in 2012, 1964 (as hosts), and in 2008.

Notably, King Felipe and Infanta Sofia were present in Berlin to witness the intense final match in person. However, it was an emotional rollercoaster for the Prince of Wales and Prince George, who sat alongside the Spanish royals in the same box. The nail-biting game saw Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the winning goal for Spain in the 86th minute, leaving fans on the edge of their seats.

Before kick-off, the British and Spanish royals posed for a photograph together, showing unity and sportsmanship. Prince William and Kate shared their support for the England team, despite the loss, expressing admiration for their dedication and teamwork. The royal couple’s children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, were also seen sporting personalized England shirts while cheering on their team from home in Windsor.

Following England’s defeat and Gareth Southgate’s resignation as manager, Prince William released a touching message. As the President of the FA and an England fan, William thanked Southgate for his leadership and humility throughout the tournament. The Prince praised Southgate for creating a team that stood out among the world’s best, displaying true class and sportsmanship in the face of intense pressure.

The celebrations for Spain’s Euro 2024 victory brought together royalty, football, and international unity in a heartwarming display of sportsmanship and camaraderie. The young princesses’ recreation of a special moment, the royal fashion statements, and the messages of support and gratitude highlighted the significance of this event beyond just a football match.
