Harry Styles surprised fans by joining Stevie Nicks on stage at a London concert Friday evening to commemorate the Fleetwood Mac singer’s former bandmate, Christine McVie. The duo duetted on two of Nicks’ most popular songs, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” and “Landslide,” to celebrate what would have been McVie’s 81st birthday.
Nicks, 76, held the 30-year-old pop singer’s hand as she spoke about McVie. He seemed emotional but kept his composure. Styles wore a blue suit and an embroidered songbird pin, which paid homage to Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird,” a track off their hit 1977 album “Rumours.”
A Touching Tribute to Christine
Ahead of the performance, Nicks also told fans they have helped her cope with the sudden death of McVie by allowing her to perform. She shared that she has been turning to the stage to deal with her grief, a sentiment she learned from her mother.
McVie unexpectedly died in November 2022 at age 79. Her death certificate was released the following April and revealed she suffered an ischemic stroke, along with the discovery of cancer in her body. Harry Styles paid tribute to McVie during his concert in Chile by performing “Songbird” and expressing his gratitude towards her.
Nicks shared a hand-written note online after McVie’s passing, expressing her profound loss and regret for not being able to say goodbye in person. She shared lyrics by the band Haim that encapsulated her feelings of loss and memory of her dear friend.
The tribute performance by Harry Styles and Stevie Nicks to honor Christine McVie was a heartfelt and emotional moment. The impact of McVie’s passing has been profound on those who knew her, and the music industry as a whole has felt the loss of such a talented artist. The power of music to heal and commemorate was evident in this special performance, reminding us all of the enduring legacy of Christine McVie.
