Taylor Swift’s London Concert Still On Despite Vienna Cancelations

Despite the cancelation of three shows in Vienna due to a terrorist threat, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is expected to continue in London next week. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has expressed his plans to welcome the pop superstar to the city as she kicks off her five sold-out nights at Wembley Stadium on August 15 before returning to North America.

Tightened Security Measures

After the tragic incident at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in 2017, London officials are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of both the concert-goers and the artist herself. Khan mentioned that the police have a vast amount of experience in policing events like these and are constantly working with various organizations to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

The decision to cancel the Vienna shows was made after a planned attack on the Ernst Happel Stadium was confirmed by the authorities. This left many fans heartbroken, as they were looking forward to seeing Taylor Swift perform. Despite the disappointment, fans came together near the venue to sing their favorite Swift songs and show support for the artist.

Two young men, ages 17 and 19, were taken into custody in Vienna after the planned attack was thwarted by the police. The 19-year-old suspect had intentions of carrying out an attack outside the stadium using knives and explosive devices he had made, according to Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence. Authorities also found chemical substances and technical devices at the suspect’s home. The 17-year-old suspect had Islamic State group and al-Qaida material at his residence.

While the Vienna shows were canceled, the organizers behind the concerts have assured fans that all tickets will be fully refunded. As of now, there have been no announcements regarding plans to reschedule the Vienna dates. Taylor Swift has not yet publicly addressed the terrorist plot or the cancelations of her shows, but the focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of her upcoming performances, particularly in London.
