The upcoming wedding of the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, to Olivia Henson is expected to be the society event of the year. Set to take place on 7 June at Chester Cathedral, the wedding will be attended by the couple’s closest friends and family members. Among the guests will be the Prince of Wales, who will not only be in attendance but will also be acting as an usher for the ceremony.
Initially, there were speculations that Prince George, the eldest son of Prince William and the Duke’s godson, would play a part in the wedding, potentially as a page boy. However, it has been revealed that due to the wedding falling on a school day, the ten-year-old prince will not be attending. Royal editor Emily Nash explained that William and Kate may have considered the implications of taking their child out of school for the event, as it could set a precedent for future occasions.
In addition to Prince George, other members of the royal family were also expected to attend the wedding but can no longer make it. This includes the King and Queen, who have prior royal engagements scheduled around the same time. The D-Day anniversary celebrations in France and the UK, which will be attended by Charles and Camilla, coincide with the Duke of Westminster’s wedding. Their Majesties, along with Prince William, will be present at the national celebration in Portsmouth on 5 June, followed by a commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer on 6 June.
The Duke of Westminster’s wedding to Olivia Henson is shaping up to be a grand affair, with prominent members of the royal family in attendance. Despite some initial expectations, Prince George will not be participating in the wedding due to school commitments. The couple’s special day promises to be a memorable event, filled with love, joy, and the presence of their nearest and dearest.
