JoJo Siwa: Shedding Her Teen Image with “Karma”

JoJo Siwa: Shedding Her Teen Image with “Karma”

It’s time to officially say goodbye to JoJo with a bow bow. The singer, dancer, and TikTok sensation, 20, released a teaser for her latest project. She’s shedding her previous persona in a new song called “Karma” with mature lyrics such as “I’m a bad girl / I did some bad things.”

But dropping explicit lyrics isn’t the only change for Siwa; The “Dance Moms” alum is also switching up her image. She has been teasing her new music with clips and photos of herself wearing multiple revealing outfits. One look in particular is no doubt inspired by another child star-turned-pop princess, Britney Spears.

The skin-toned, sheer, sparkly creation is somewhat similar to the crystal-embellished catsuit that Spears wore in her 2004 music video for “Toxic.” Siwa put her own spin on the design, with her leotard featuring skin-baring cutouts and strategically-placed sparkles.

In other shots previewing what’s to come in the “Karma” video, the “Dancing With the Stars” alum sports tiny, lace-up shorts and a matching cropped jacket with elaborate statement shoulders. Still, it seems that some parts of Siwa’s won’t be changing all that much. The rising musical artist appears to be sticking with her go-to sparkly beauty aesthetic, wearing jewels in her hair and metallic makeup as well as face paint.

Recently, the “So You Think You Can Dance” judge took fans by surprise when she posted a video to TikTok wearing a biker-inspired outfit, complete with a gold chain necklace and oversized aviator sunglasses. “Telling my kids this is Joe dirt,” one fan commented on the post, while another added they “thought this was dog the bounty hunter.”

Siwa, who turns 21 this May, is no doubt being strategic when it comes to her future. Speaking with E News, it is clear that she is ready to break free from her teen image and embrace a more mature persona through her music and fashion choices. “Karma” is just the beginning of this new chapter for JoJo Siwa.
