Kelly Clarkson Files Lawsuit Against Ex-Husband for Violating Labor Laws

Kelly Clarkson, the renowned singer and television personality, is once again in the headlines as she files a lawsuit against her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, and his father’s management company, Starstruck Entertainment. This legal action comes on the heels of Clarkson winning a $2.6 million ruling against Blackstock last fall.

The complaint filed in Los Angeles accuses Starstruck Entertainment of violating California labor laws, specifically the Talent Agencies Act, by operating as an unlicensed talent agency and booking business deals on Clarkson’s behalf dating back to 2007. The lawsuit demands that all agreements between the parties be declared void and all monies previously paid to Starstruck be returned.

Representatives for Blackstock and Clarkson have not yet commented on the new lawsuit. Blackstock, who was previously found to have acted unlawfully in a ruling from November 2023, is currently appealing the decision. His lawyer has argued against Clarkson’s claims, stating that it is unethical to seek repayment from a former spouse who had also utilized those earnings to support their family.

This latest lawsuit adds to the ongoing legal battle between Clarkson and Brandon, who separated in 2020 after seven years of marriage. The couple finalized their divorce in 2022, with Clarkson being ordered to make substantial payments to Blackstock for spousal and child support. The exes share two children, and Clarkson has been vocal about the impact of the divorce on their kids.

Clarkson’s decision to take legal action against her ex-husband and his management company showcases the complexities of navigating business dealings within personal relationships. The lawsuit sheds light on the importance of adhering to labor laws and the consequences of acting outside of legal boundaries in the entertainment industry.

Kelly Clarkson’s lawsuit against Brandon Blackstock and Starstruck Entertainment underscores the challenges that can arise when mixing business with personal relationships. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how this latest development will impact the ongoing dispute between Clarkson and her ex-husband.
