Princess Kate has been noticeably absent from public engagements in recent months due to undergoing preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis. While many royal watchers were hoping to see her at the Duke of Westminster’s wedding, Kate was not present at the event. Her husband, Prince William, attended the wedding solo, taking on the role of an usher. Kate most likely stayed at home in Windsor with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who are all in school.
Since confirming her cancer diagnosis in March, Princess Kate has taken a step back from her royal duties to focus on her recovery away from the public eye. According to royal sources, Kate will not be returning to her royal duties anytime soon. She needs the space and privacy to recover fully and will only go back to work when her medical team gives her the green light.
There were speculations among royal fans that Prince George, who is also the Duke of Westminster’s godson, might attend the wedding and possibly act as a page boy. However, royal editor Emily Nash revealed in a podcast that her understanding is that Prince George will not be attending. The wedding falling on a school day presents a dilemma for William and Kate, as taking their child out of school for the event could set a precedent that they may not want to establish.
The Duke of Westminster shares a close bond with Prince William and Princess Kate. He attended Prince George’s christening after being named as one of his godparents, and his sister, Lady Edwina, has also worked with Princess Kate in the past. King Charles, another godparent of the Duke, is also closely linked to the Grosvenor family. However, it is not clear whether King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the wedding as only Prince William is confirmed to be in attendance.
It is also understood that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be attending the Duke of Westminster’s wedding. Despite sharing a strong friendship with the Duke, Prince Harry, like Prince William, will miss out on the celebration. Hugh is also a godfather to Prince Archie, strengthening the bond between the families.
