The Biting Problem: An Analysis of President Biden’s Dog Commander

A recent report has shed light on the alarming behavior of President Biden’s family dog, Commander, a German Shepherd who has bitten Secret Service agents on at least two dozen occasions. The staggering figure of 24 biting incidents was brought to the forefront through internal Secret Service documents obtained by CNN. These documents highlight the severity of the situation, indicating that Commander’s biting tendencies go beyond just the Secret Service agents at the White House.

Commander’s biting incidents were not limited to the White House alone, as he also displayed aggressive behavior at two Biden family homes in Delaware, during trips to Nantucket and Camp David. The biting incidents involved not only members of the President’s protective detail but also other uniformed Secret Service agents. What is particularly concerning is that in at least 10 instances, the bitten Secret Service agents required medical treatment due to the severity of the bites.

The continuous biting incidents involving Commander forced the Secret Service to modify their operational tactics when the dog was present. An internal memo issued by the Secret Service highlighted the need for adjustments, stating, “The recent dog bites have challenged us to adjust our operational tactics when Commander is present – please give lots of room.” This warning underscored the importance of ensuring personal safety, emphasizing the creativity required by Secret Service agents to navigate the situation effectively.

Commander’s Removal from the White House

The escalating nature of Commander’s biting incidents culminated in his expulsion from the White House back in October. Initially, the Secret Service only acknowledged 11 biting incidents, but the internal documents revealed a much higher number. The decision to remove Commander was likely a difficult one, considering the emotional attachment the Bidens had with the dog. Despite feeling “awful” and “heartbroken” over Commander’s behavior, the Bidens had to prioritize the safety of those around them.

Current Whereabouts of Commander

Currently, Commander is reported to be living with Biden family friends in Delaware. While the Bidens may be saddened by the turn of events, ensuring the safety of individuals around Commander remains a top priority. The biting incidents serve as a reminder of the complexities involved in owning a pet with aggressive tendencies, especially when that pet is in close proximity to high-profile individuals and security personnel.
